Pollinator Hedgerows
I have designed, sourced plants, and overseen the installation of hedgerows for pollinators and beneficial insects on more than 20 farms in Sonoma, Napa, and Yolo counties
Integrating the Science of Ecological Restoration with the Craft of Sustainable Farming
The Approach
With almost three decades of field experience in the North Coast of California, I work at the intersection of ecological science and working-land management — helping farmers, ranchers, and public lands managers steward ecosystems that are both productive and resilient.
My on-the-ground experience includes organic farm transition planning, farm product diversification, pollinator hedgerow design, riparian restoration, and native plant propagation and nursery management. My planning and project management experience includes grant development and management, regional planning and research, and project management and technical writing. In addition to a totally irrelevant PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience from MIT, I hold a certificate in Ecological Horticulture from the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz. I have worked with regional collaboratives, county agencies, resource conservation districts, NGOs, and private landowners on projects ranging from small family farmscaping to large-scale watershed planning and restoration projects.
Every landscape tells its own story. My work begins with careful observation — reading the land, tracing its ecological history, and understanding the relationships between soil, water, plants, and the communities that depend on them. From that foundation, thoughtful stewardship can take root and endure.
The Work
I have designed, sourced plants, and overseen the installation of hedgerows for pollinators and beneficial insects on more than 20 farms in Sonoma, Napa, and Yolo counties
Projects include organic certification plans, orchard plans, vegetable crop plans and greenhouse sowing schedules, sheep integration and grazing plans, and riparian restoration projects on farms
I have worked with Sonoma County Ag + Open Space and the North Coast Resource Partnership, working with multi-disciplinary teams to create county and regional-scale plans for farming, forestry, and climate and wildfire resilience
Whether you're managing a working farm, restoring degraded habitat, or planning a transition to more sustainable practices — I'd welcome the conversation.
