After completing a PhD in Neuroscience at MIT at age 26, I knew one thing for sure: I didn't want to be a neuroscientist. Oops.
After a circuitous path that included studying at an ecological field station in the rain forest of Costa Rica and working on an organic coffee farm in Guatemala, I returned to California for the renowned apprenticeship in organic farming at the Center for Agroecology and Sustainable Food Systems at UC Santa Cruz, where I earned a certificate in Ecological Horticulture and worked for another year as the farm's propagation manager.
After 7 years managing the ecological restoration program at Circuit Riders, a Sonoma County nonprofit dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of human and ecological systems, I founded Farm Stewards to unite my passion and experience in sustainable farming and ecological restoration, to help the land owners and land managers of Northern California to steward the land under their care.
